Francis "Don" Silvers

August 16, 2015

On Thursday, August 13, 2015, Francis Donald Silvers, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, MI was escorted into Heaven by his Savior, Jesus Christ, as he passed away at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held on Monday, August 17, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Rowley Funeral Home, 320 University Avenue, Mount Pleasant, MI, with Reverend Gary Simmons from the Ithaca United Methodist Church officiating.  Don attended the Ithaca UMC. Visitation will be before the service from 9am to 11am.  A burial service will be at 2:30 pm in the Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens in Battle Creek, after the celebration.

Don was born July 26, 1932 in a logging camp near Mesick, Michigan to the parents of Jake A. and Stella Faye (Dunseth) Silvers.  He was married to Rosamond “Rose” Hodges on May 3, 1975 and loved and cared for her dearly for 34 years until her passing away in August 2008.  Don had been retired 28 years, after 27 years of maintenance service at Central Michigan University, and enjoyed coffee at McDonalds with his other retirees every morning.  For 53 years, he did lawn care for many people throughout Mt. Pleasant. But, not all of Don’s days were deep in hard work and beautifying God’s earth.  He found time to enjoy that nature throughout his young years by fishing with his Mom and older years hunting with his son-in-law, Bill Brenner in Bellevue and fishing with a group other men in Missanabie, Canada for many years.

Don is survived by his daughter, Debra Goodboo of Alma, son Donald Silvers of Auburn and son William (Kathleen) Silvers of Ithaca and many nieces and nephews.  When his kids were younger they loved camping, fishing and swimming at School Section Lake and Tubs Island, with their Dad and Mom.  He was the proud Grandpa to Tom Goodboo, Angela Bradley, Chris Bradley and Ethan, Megan and Mary Silvers.  Don had the opportunity to see the first eight (8) of his Great-Grandchildren. He loved his family very, very much and his extended family at the Pixie restaurant.  His special friends were Bill and Nancy Rogers of Mt. Pleasant.

Don was preceded in death by his son-in-law William Brenner, both his parents, and eleven (11) brothers and sisters: brother’s Gary, Albert, Roger, Arnold, Larry and sisters, Nelda, Margaret, Wava, Mary, Lolabell, and infant Wanda. He was, also, preceded in death by his first wife and mother to his children, his dear friend Leona Chaffee.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sparrow Health System in Lansing.
